Re: Starting a 6 gallon.
Yea my mom left out the detail that she (the woman) was lieing. Anyway just got some live rock and sand in the tank. 4.9 pounds of base 2.8 pounds of premium live rock. My friend at fintastic only charged me for 2 pounds though but at 15 per lb it was still expensive. Got 5 lbs of live sand in also. Going to get better bulbs tomorrow. Getting the fuge next week since im waiting on the base rock to seed. I got a spare 5 lbs of live sand I might not need though.
I can already see that I have a nice shimmer thanks to the powerhead. Live rock was cured almost entirely purple. The base rock was already starting to seed so I shouldnt have to wait but maybe a month or 2. I was wondering if you think 3 pounds of live rock could support a CUC. So I have something feeding the nitrogen cycle.
Got some beautiful pieces though, One looks actually kind of like a coral, And an incredible shelf piece. I did have to chisle most of it down but everything was very "cavy" and porous. I actually made some extra caves with it also. Have 6 physical gallons of water in a flat back hex.
EDIT: Apparently...I have to get a new hood...my hood says 15W max and i have 28W in it now and it smells like its burning. So, Thats a downer.

With LR it should only take a couple of weeks to cycle. Get a testing kit ASAP. Yeah it can support your CUC but i would hold out on the shrimp if you're going to get one.

Re: Starting a 6 gallon.
Nope. All snails. In fact I got 2 of the same unknown snails in my sand. And yes I know I need the test kit. It dawned on me about 2 hours ago. Im going to see about a light this week because I literally cant cut the light on more than an hour. Maybe a fan to keep it cool until next week so I can get the kit this week? Thoughts?

Re: Starting a 6 gallon.
You would absolutely be amazed at how little I spend on my ghetto fixes...I think the most iv ever spent on one was like $2.67. In this case though the money is coming from the fact that I still got some of my budget for this week left. Although how much I dont know. Should be able to con my mom into it though.
Im not spending my $25....I got to get something tuesday with that.
Bigger problem: The insane heat in my room is keeping the nano at 84 degrees.

Re: Starting a 6 gallon.
Physical therapy made my knees hurt worse and the docs told me to stay off them etc. and my mom decided to tell my doctor about it...She got a little mad...Mom and doc dont want me doing anything with it until they figure out my legs. Said a smaller tank was fine but "that much work on something that size isnt"

Re: Starting a 6 gallon.
Well to make PF happy. While I was at petsmart picking up the test kit i grabbed some frozen blood worms and a dragon goby. Just tested seeded and added him to the tank.
Tested the nano parameters are at:
Ammonia: 0.75
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0
PH: 7.8
I already planned out my lighting and I will essentially be moving my snail lighting to the nano. Should I go with 46W of 6700K until next week? Or 28W of 2700K? All I have right now so I was thinking the 46W 6700K would be best.

I would go with the 46W. I wish jacobnano would post since he has a better knowledge of nano reefs. Whats your SG?

I'll PM him about it.
Good. What kind? That will also keep your nuisance algae away.

Re: Starting a 6 gallon.
Line in the dust on the wall, I havent cleaned it completely yet. I cant find the 2 snails to get ID pics. They have shells about 1/4 of there total size. Cant really touch them without touching the soft part and they blend in with the sand. Any ideas?

Yes. Bubble snails or sea slugs.

Thats one species anyways.

Re: Starting a 6 gallon.
Looks fine but you need corals or something so it doesn't look dead. On a shelf? Like a book shelf?
