My friends new coldwater tank.
I thought I would cross post this for you guys since some of you may remember when I first got this tank and some of the work I did on it. Well I ended up selling it to a LFS and the guy who bought it contacted me and we've gone collecting together and are helping eachother out now with our coldwater setups.
He's going to concentrate on a very specific biotope we viewed when we were collecting at the Oregon coast. It'll be all tidal containing a lot of Anthoplura Xantogramica ( Giant Green Anemones) green Ulga algae, and the bright green tidal sculpins I have shown in the past.
I'm currently holding the quite a bit of livestock for him, so when his tank is ready to rock it should be pretty sweet.
Its a ML-22-SS 45 gal marineland lobster tank with to many mods to list, 1/2 hrs pacific coast chiller, SXC hang on the back skimmer rated for 200 gals, more info as tank is stocked and pics to come!
The system has a 1/3 chiller built into it, but for whatever reason it wasn't cooling the water. We looked into getting it repaired and recharged and it was more cost beneficial to go a different route.
He ended up scoring the 1/2 horse chiller pictured for $150 because the temp control board was fried. The half horse chiller was re-wired to run constantly when powered on, and we just plugged the power cord into the socket that is hooked into the thermostat built into the tank
Tank is going to be lit with a single Par38 bulb.

Yea I love the look of that tank man. Wish I could get a cube or a semi cube like that to set up for pure display >.> When I get time to pop in in another 50 years I expect to see that stocked

Gonna be stocked after this weekend
We are going collecting for his tank this sunday morning during a minus tide. We got one of the dimmable par38 bulbs over his tank now and it looks sweet.

Re: My friends new coldwater tank.
Doing really well!!! We started it up almost completely with water from my established tanks so there was no cycle and we stocked it right up.
The Surf Smelt is by far the coolest fish in there We are going collecting on July 3rd and are going to try and get some more.
I think we are going to upgrade his Dimmable 12 watt Par38 bulb to one of the higher output Par38 bulbs that use the 3w cree bulbs. Probably an Evil666 bulb or the like with fairly tight optics. I dont know that the Ulga algae in his tank is getting enough light with just the 6x1watt whites and 6x1watt blues that are in the bulb he has now.
I'll probably take his bulb along with the one I already have, which is identical, and use them over my non-photosynthetic coldwater tanks.

Good idea. Are those aggregate anemones in the left back corner of the tank?

Yes they are, we've actually found 4 different coloration's of them in the one spot that we go collecting.
