I wish i had pics. The interesting thing was that they only extended themselves approximately 1 inch from their holes.

No. Smooth and slimy almost resembling mini navanax.
On a further note the tank is approximately 62˚Fahrenheit without a chiller .

You'll probably need one for Summer... I know I will, and I live in a colder climate.

Re: Starting My Temperate Tank
Yeah. However i am only planning on tidepool species until i am able to acquire a chiller as they are used to the higher temperatures a tidepool brings. I plan on stocking with green anemones, crabs, shrimp, macro algae, navanax inermis, bubble shells, margarita snails, and perhaps a few other specimens.

Of course. A thread without pictures is not a thread at all .

Yea, I like the first one more. Nice shelf hanging off though. It really gives more of a reef illusion.

What gives the reef illusion? The first or second picture.

Re: Starting My Temperate Tank
the "shelf" as i so confusingly call it in the second picture. As for every other detail of what we consider a reef the first picture has it. As for natural I have to give it to the second picture

Re: Starting My Temperate Tank
I must disagree with you. The first picture gives the illusion of a drop off which is what i am looking for. As far as the second picture goes it just ruins the whole point of the setup which is the drop off idea. I want more tank space than drop off which is quite the opposite of the second picture.

Re: Starting My Temperate Tank
Well what I meant by the natural comment is that in the wild not every reef is completely stuffed with corals etc. nor is the water always crystal clear. Il gladly give you the drop off illusion statement though and I actually agree with you.

Re: Starting My Temperate Tank
Well his tank was only cloudy because he had just set it up and really water has to be clear for corals to thrive.

Re: Starting My Temperate Tank
No i'm not trying to win . Just saying in my experience reefs situated by estuaries where lots of sediment from upstream is disturbed it chokes and smothers the corals. I think his set up will look very nice when its clearer.

Re: Starting My Temperate Tank
Since i haven't been in the hobby for a while. I took down my cycling tank . I will just have to wait until another time. Unfortunately it's a luxury i can't exactly have right now. The only reason i have my 40 running is because my dads in on that. I thought about turning that into a temperate tank but he's to into tropical to turn back. Not to mention how much money we've already spent on it...lol.
