Well had a loverly day here ,Went to a place called Tambo bay and added to my collection ..

Lots and lots of little critters to add to the DSB, found a nice 3ft deep channel between 2 sand bars and raked it with my new net design ( 4ft long 2ft wide on a prawning net frame with very fine net, looks like a trawlers net.).

Got a 1/2 dozen small king prawn 1/2in long ,they same in flat head ,a few gobies some spider crab and 7 little flounder smallest a 1/4 in and the biggest 3in .

I also found some good weed samples for my sump and added more sand..

I also left a net bag of volcanic rock in a good spot to grow live rock that I will collect after summer..

Wow that's great! Care to share some pictures? So is there a limit on how many fish/inverts you can take?

That's actually a really good idea! Did you manage to find any food for the pipefish?

Is that place a popular spot to catch livestock?

Oh no! That`s a real bummer! Perhaps you should have took the young pipefish out of the sump and into a different aquarium.

At least you have food for the adults; if you want more pipefish maybe you can try and cultivate some rotifers or other food source along those lines so you'll be ready for the next batch. Sorry that you can't find them though.

I'm sure most of it had to do with lack of food. The sump was probably the best place for them because of all of the pods that would be found there.

Very small and very hard to find if they are still alive and the babies dont have long noses ..all these years I thought it was to differant kinds of pipe fish long nose and short nose..

What I have learned is they give birth around the full moon and they open a bomber bay like flaps and let one out at a time .I keeped 4 adults for now and I will see how they go on shrimp larva and pods

I have added Amphipods and other critters to the DT and sump I also have 20 or more shrimp with eggs..

The net bag of volcanic rock is a first try for me, There are lots of markers for boats and nets in the bay to attach it to ,Ive tryed putting rocks in the shallow water to seed but it takes a long time ,I noticed the new bouy and rope a friend put in for his boat had weed and critters on it in only a month so Ive attached it to that and I will check it regular...

That's an interesting distinction between the fry and adult. Do you think the puffer got to the fry?

That would make sense since the water is cooler deeper down and there's likely more circulation and water flow which would bring more species to land on the rocks and grow/make a home, etc.

Im thinking wave generator may have got a few ,and you cant rule the puffer out or the flat heads..

The lack of info on juvenile species in temperate Australian waters makes it a little hard to identify things sometimes, Ive always thought the long nose and short was 2 differant types as baby sea horses and dragons look similar to adults..

Horray on the baby pipefish!

I believe you can upload them onto Youtube or Vimeo if you get an account. I don't believe that his forum can upload videos. Okay

That's great on the find! Maybe you can write a report on your experiences with them!

Just listen to the others on how to upload a video Smile.
