Re: New Possible Forest Tank
This may be good news to some of you... But after much consideration, I'm thinking of going with the 40. I want to be able to have some tall macros. The island setup would still apply.

Horray! That's great news! Please keep us posted!
So what kind of puffers do you plan to have?

I did an inquiry on TPF and it seems that no species of puffer are suitable for the temperate 40 setup. However, a species of boxfish might work. The tank will most likely be fish-less, with the exception of a goby or sculpin, in the beginning.

I vote for boxfish! (or cowfish) but have fun with the tank!

Definitely. The tank is going to be a predominant forest tank, but I'm going to incorporate anemones and sponges into the design. It is my hope that the anemones will stay around the roots of the kelp and macros but I guess they'll move to where they want to be.

Cool! So where are the kelp gonna go?

On the rocks of the islands. Nearer to the top but not exactly on the top. Smaller macros will be placed on the lower reaches of the islands, but there is going to be less density. I'm envisioning kelp roots on the islands. I want the tank to be very clean overall and not cluttered.

How's the tank going? The island part sounds very intriguing. I look forward to pics and details!

It's good. I'm just getting everything together to see what else I might need. By the looks of it I'm going to need more aragonite.

Are the islands going to be made of aragonite sand?

No. Simply put, by islands I mean cluster of rocks. I need the aragonite to help maintain the pH.

Oh cool. So do you plan on using aquarium glue to hold up the rocks?

If necessary yes; in fact it will probably be necessary as I am going to attempt an elaborate rock display.

Yea! I look forward to pics! So will this forest tank be temperate? And what kind of cowfish or puffers are you looking into?

Re: New Possible Forest Tank
Temperate of course.
After my TPF inquiry it would seem that the only species suitable are fugu species, but they would eventually outgrow the tank. The only species I would consider is the Ornate but as I said before I'm not going to have any large fish in their for a while. Just gobies and sculpins.

Yep. I just need to divide it into fuge, bioballs, rubble, and skimmer sections.

It has yet to be filled. I am definitely going to need more aragonite though.
