Hallo uit Nederland
That's Hello from The Netherlands (Holland),
My name is Frode (1968), a biologist, teacher, husband, father of two, and aquarist for all my life.
I've been into the tropic Reef Tank for over six years now. I'm planning a new tank. Corner tank 120 x 120 x 65 cm (48" x 48" x 26").
And I'm seriously considering a temperate tank. I live 4 km from the cost of the North Sea. Mainly sandy beaches, but a lot of basalt structures which form a hard substrate for many inverts. That would be a great challenge for a tank!
Also the Wadden Sea is nearby (just 25 km). This Tidal Sea falls dry for 2/3 at low tide! This gives great changes for collecting inverts, shrimps and goby's in pools near 'oister banks'.
So with al this at reach, I am now figuring out a cost effective way to chill my tank.
Probably a system of pipes in the soil under my house could do the job. It's sandy, wet and 10 Celcius all the time.
Well that's me so far...the only problem yet is...I love my tropic tank, which is also the first tank my wife seems to appriciate... and as it's also up to her: there can be only one!
greetings, Frode

Hello and welcome to Temperate Reef! Is the Wadden Sea by changes part of the Baltic region? It'd be neat if you would post pictures of your tropical tank!

Re: Hallo uit Nederland
Hello, and thank you.
No, the Baltic Region is more to the South of Europe. The Wadden Sea is in the North-Western part of Europe. It's a coastal zone of the North Sea, stretching from the Netherlands, Germany, to Denmark.
The Netherlands is to the west of Germany, and borders the North Sea, with on the other side Great Britten. Going south allong the coast line you get to Belgium and then France, where you come in to the Atlantic region. With in some parts a beautifull rocky coast. This is a popular region for Dutch aquarist to collect species for their temperate marine aquaria.
It can be quite warm during summer times, up to 20 celsius. But some winters it can be partly frozen
Here is an image of my current tank.

Welcome to TR.
I don't know if I'm biased, but I say temperate tanks all the way!
Nice tropical tank, by the way (I love the blue SPS); how long has it been set up?

Re: Hallo uit Nederland
Thanx,
This tank has been running 6 years, but it has been restyled 2 times. Last time was a little over a year ago.
The glass and silicone is becoming old, so I have ordered a new tank to take it's place. And I think I will make it a temperate
Greetings, Frode

I'm getting a new one! And I'm thinking of making it a temperate tank.
And I can have only one (bigger) tank
