Newbie in love with dwarf seahorses
Hello ALL,
I am a newbie who is trying to create a dwarf seahorse aquarium. But I will also be adding macro, mushrooms and zoanthids to the aquarium. I have already posted some comments on the lighting section because I want to fit my aquarium with new LED lights so I won't have to spend my whole college savings on flourescents or halides. So here I am!

P.S. I am also new at the whole DIY thing!

Hey, I am experienced with seahorses and piepfish. Yay now I can help ya with two things. You do know that LEDs will be more expensive initially right? In the end you will save lots of money, but it will be expensive initially.

Yes I understand that they will be expensive at first but I have been saving (summer jobs etc.,). But I like the idea that I won't have to keep buying a bulb every few months and the special lamp that goes with it...and the college is very eco-green so once they see the electricity vampire (metal halide or flourescent fixure) they will start hunting me down to change it to a more eco-friendly lamp.
I see it similar to my own college experience: upfront there is a LOT of money but in the end it pays off.

Re: Newbie in love with dwarf seahorses
Well right now I am just researching so I will know the type of money I need to save. So the list now is:
9g Biube
15lb dry, pre-cycled marco rocks
Arag-alive black sand
U1 Fluval underwater filter(with sponge or hosiery cover)
Marineland aquatimers
Hatchery dish with decapsulated brine shrimp eggs
Copepods
mysid shrimp
Red grape macroalgae
Mermaid's wine glass
zoanthid (2-3 polyps)
blue mushroom (2-3 polyps)
DIY LED fixture
And all the other essential items like saltwater testing kits (etc).
This is probably a little more expensive than most dwarf seahorse set-ups but this is my first go with dwarf seahorses so I want to do it right. I am waiting until I return back to college (in Massachusetts) in september to start everything because right now I am home in Dallas.

That is going to be an amazing tank. Post some pics up for the build. I will never buy another light other than LED. The PAR readings were better than all the other lights and I will not have to change my bulbs for 11 years.
