Been needing to do this. The best pic I took I sent to POTM. I will not tell which one it is. i collect at the Perdido Pass jetties. here is the list of the things I have caught here.I live ina subtropical area. The water gets to like 88 in the summer and to like 54F in winter. My collecting spot sadly was hit by the oil spill so this area is a lot differant now. I will not be able to collect for a long while. I have more pics coming up when I find my camera charger.

here is a list of the things I have caught here.I have caught other things but they were all to big.
warty sea anemones
stargazers
crested blenny
molly miller blenny
sea lettuce
red graciliara
kelp
stingray
pipefish
mullet
croaker
stone crab
some strange crab (looks exactly like a toad crab)
some other anemone
and another unidentified nem
sand fleas
auger snails
whelk'
hermits
blue crab
sand crab (i think)
soapfish
I saw some angelfish (pretty sure they were angels)
I saw a damsel (pretty sure a damsel)unidentified crab
unidentified macro
what looked like hydroid skeletons
pods
shad
nerite snails

Here is a video of my collecting area underwater. Not my video.

Anyways, here is a pic of the area we swam to collect the stuff on the jetty.

How do you collect your nems? The only time I collected one I had to bring the rock home with it! lol

Get a credit card or putty knife and very gently and carefully scrape them off their rock. they will get irritated enough and let go.

Very Good! I would hate to have it die from injuries I've inflicted collecting it.

lol, most nems can be cut in half and still live. Just try not to smash them or squeeze them to hard. that is not really good to do.

Is this "division" how one would propagate nems? I knew that when they are thriving they divide.

Even though they live after, it is not good to do. It stresses them out a lot and they will release chemicals into your tnak that im sure you dont want. I just dont think it is that humane. But then again, I have this strange obsession of nems. lol

It's not a strange obsession! lol

I might do it in the future as a science experiment. But really, if would be faster just to go get some new ones! hehehe... Perhaps next year I will go snorkeling Wink That is if I have a tank by then...
