Re: Hello!
I just started to collecting animals for my 80 gal temp reef. I'm looking into filter-feeder food. And my starfish don't seem to move much, so I can't make sure they are eating! lol
You have a temperate tank? love to hear about it.

not yet, but as soon as I figure out the definition its a possibility for sure, I think my local pickings would be for a cold system? Pacific North West might require a chiller

Re: Hello!
Wetwork.. what town are you in? I'm in Vancouver. And I think a chiller is needed for the hottest months. I will have one made by the next warm season.

They are too big to keep that way. Neither of you would find it very enjoyable. You can start a tank without a chiller. I advise you to do so! Collect some local live rock.

Thanks Michael! that was a Tangs in a tea cup joke lol, I have a 250g Koi tank, no heaters just pumps and a couple of very small lights and the temp yesterday was 78, just don't see local life surviving long term somehow

I hear you. I had a little 20 gal as my first native tank and the heat killed some of its occupants and that fouled to water and that all but killed the tank.
It all depends on what you put in. Inter-tidal life is much more used to the high heat. I started this tank a couple months ago and I figure I have until the warm weather next year to build my chiller.
That said, I don't know which animals are more or less sensitive. The Skillet fish was the first to go.

Re: Hello!
i would think the inverts would be first on the hit list, think the fish would adjust better? the mortality rate of captured specimens is lower I think just from the food change issues. Im just a little hesitant to start killing stuff through lack of equip/knowledge, guess I need to keep reading then post some questions.
