New to Temperate Reef Empty New to Temperate Reef

Hi, my name is Mike and I am new to the site. I've kept a saltwater tank for a couple of years now. A friend and I were talking about local tanks and since I live in the Bayshore area of NJ it got the wheels in my head turning. Fast forward to this summer my son collected a number of  snails a crabs while at the beach and asked if he could keep them. Being me I said "Sure!" I had no real idea what I was going to do. When we got home I pulled out a spare tank and set it up in the yard, grabbed a pail and collected some water from the bay, used a simple filter and set it up. We acclimated the critters and we were off and running. A week or so later he came home with some live bait and added it to the tank. everything went swimmingly.  I really enjoyed the ease of care for these creatures and thought what else could I keep in a cold water tank that is local. We recently released the critters as was the deal I made with my son. Now I want to take this to the next level so in researching the idea I landed here and look forward to learning as much as I can before the next leap. Forgive me if from time to time ask a redundant question.

Thanks for having me
