Hi Everyone,
I've been gathering bits for my experimental rock pool tank.
I have picked up a standard under counter fridge (free)
A forty litre glass tank for the experimental stage (free)
An old glass tank in the loft for my sump.
2150lph pump (£10)
air con controller for plug in air con units (£12.50)

My plan is to put the sump in the fridge and a couple of bulkhead connectors for pipes and a similar diameter air hole, once drilled I'll put the tank on top of the fridge (if it works I'll build a sturdy stand) and plug fridge into air con thermostat which can be set to cut in/out between 5'c and 35'c room temp.
I will pick up the tank and pump this week.
Once I have all the bits I'm gonna plug it all in and monitor temp in top tank to see what happens. I predict it will work too well, but the thermostat should stop it getting too cold during UK winter.
Fridge's are generally about 5'c so I'm hoping that as the water circulates to the top tank it will warm up end up at around 15'c (suitable for native uk water species), but I can play around with flow rate etc to fine tune it.
If it's really too cold, I'll put the sump next to the fridge and run the gravity fed (return to sump) pipe in coils through the fridge. I can fine tune this method by adding / removing coils. Which I've seen people do before.

I'll keep you posted, but if the theory works I'll build a strong stand and probably invest in a thick acrylic tank of larger volume.
Hopefully I can figure something out, but if anyones run their sump inside the fridge before I'd love to hear how you got on.

Just bought an stc 1000 temp controller on eBay for £15. Didn't realise they were so cheap these days. I have been doing freshwater only for some years now.
