what to expect in a temperate marine aquarium?

im about to move and want to ditch my old nano reef for something larger. im torn between building a zoa and softie dominated reef or a temperate reef. i live on the bc coast so i love the idea of being able to collect my own livestock, but i dont dive so i only have access to tidepools or whatever may end up in my prawn traps. can someone please explain the pros and cons having experience with both? i am usually not a fan of high maintenance systems but i know nps feedings and water changes can be semi automated.
