Love the Site!
Hey guys!
I'm a huge fan of the site. I don't currently have a temperate aquarium but would like to do a New England Coast biotope someday. I am fascinated by temperate reefs and find them extremely interesting. I was a huge fan of Steve Weast's and Jon Olav's aquarium. They were amazing (I wish they were still up ).
I know a few people on the site from another forum (Jacob, Bluenassarius, Jamie, Brent, AquaticEngineer, Moto, Pufferfreak) and am glad to finally join the forum!
I'm currently working on a 125 gallon mixed reef with gobies. I love gobies (if you're on the other forum you can probably tell ) I know a ton about gobies, even the coldwater ones, and am currently writing a huge Ultimate Goby Guide!
Happy to be on the TemperateReef Forums,
Animalmaster6

Good to have you! We certainly could use the membership! Do you happen to know if there are any gobies in the PNW? I haven't seen any, but there are THOUSANDS of thing here I haven't see yet!

Re: Love the Site!
Thanks nfor the warm welcoming Michael!
I don't know of many gobies in the area but I do know there are various ronquil species. They are similar gobies.
The Bay Goby, Lepidogobius lepidus, is one of the three gobies in the Bay Area.
I found this very interesting http://www.chesapeakebay.net/bfg_gobies.aspx?menuitem=14397
I bet many species like this are found in the Pacific North West.

Re: Love the Site!
nice site!
I caught a little black and white sculpin that I thought was a goby until I got it home. Interestingly enough, other sculpins died in a tank crash I just had, but this one is fine. It just took a couple days for him to come out after the big Marbled Sculpin was gone.

Re: Love the Site!
Very sorry to hear about the tank crash
Sculpins are really similar to gobies in behavior and appearance. Same with triplefins and gunnels.
I really want to catch some gunnels. I've never seen one before in the wild and I really want to. I think I found a spot where gunnels are, I might be going there over Thanksgiving Break! I'll try to get some pics of them if I can catch them. I have a Canon Rebel T1i

No gunnels? They are the easiest for me to find. Look at low tide but up from the water. They ride out the low tide under rocks. it's not uncommon for me to find several under the same rock.
I have a video of the tank with the sculpin in it on here. You might have seen it.
I can try to get some gunnel film for you if you like?

Re: Love the Site!
I haven't really looked much yet
I gunnel video would be awesome! Thanks!
I really hope I can find a few, or even catch them (getting a 5.5g tank that I bring around with me to collect things, put them in the tank, photograph them, release them) and take some pics.
I have seen some of your videos. I love your Northern Clingfish.

Welcome to the site! c:
Gunnels seem to be the only fish I'm having trouble finding. Gonna try and find some again in Spring.

Don't look in pools. Look under rocks. Same for clingfish.

I do; I haven't actually done much tidepooling yet. I managed to find a shanny on my last trip but my camera was inshore (it was rough and I didn't want to lose it) so no pictures.

I really hope I can get some gunnels. Might be going Friday!
I think the gunnels around here are still around, all the creatures around here are still out, just don't go in the frigid water

Rocks in the tidepools? Or just rocks in general? I heard the gunnels like to live in rocks around the pools.Michael Milligan wrote:Don't look in pools. Look under rocks. Same for clingfish.

Rocks in general. At low tide they hide under the rocks. flip over the right rock and there could be a bunch underneath. Clingfish are best found where rocks are sitting on other rocks. When you flip a stone the clingfish say stuck!
