Seeding SW tank with material from FW tank?
I got my new 80 gal into my living room and 2/3 full of water. Dumped in all the instant ocean I had left (getting more tomorrow) and started up the powerhead.
My question is: Can I seed this tank with bacteria from one of my FW tanks? My concerns are two. 1) They simply aren't the same BB and 2) going from FW to SW would cause them to wrinkle up and die (osmosis).
Thoughts?

Sadly it doesnt work. the best way is to get a few rocks from your local waterways and seed wth that. Coldwater cycling is slow. When I had my temperate tank it took 2 months. then again, I didnt have anything seeded.

Just as I thought.
And the fact it takes so long is why I'm starting the cycle THEN worrying about a chiller.

Yeah it doesn't work. They will die due to the extreme changes in salinity. Even slight changes from FW to BW can cause a mini cycle or death in the bacteria.
